Hey Reader! The first quarter of 2024 is done and dusted, and I wanted to share with you some outstanding results one of my couple client's can brag about! Erin and Tom (100% fake names), approached me feeling like they were living “paycheck to paycheck” with no plan for their substantial income. They were going in the hole to the tune of approx. $2000 per month and didn’t understand why due to their middle incomes. They had tried to get on the same page with money, but could never stick to the budgets and budgeting apps they had tried. They felt defeated, frustrated, and stressed. After our complimentary discovery call, we decided that the Money Fix Pro would be a great fit for their needs and they committed themselves to the program. By the end of working together over a 6 month period, they were following an anti-budget plan that allowed them to stop going in the hole by $2000 per month, and additionally pay down $1495 per month on their debts. (That's a net cashflow GAIN of $3495 per month). Not only that, but we automated $1700 per month into their lifejacket funds for upcoming expenses (kid's activities, Christmas, vacation, house and car repairs and emergency expenses.) They had not been saving anything for these previously. I'm an open book, so let's take a look at EXACTLY how they did it⬇️⬇️⬇️ The Facts
Step #1 - The AnalysisThe first step we take in the Money Fix Pro is to analyze 4 months worth of our client's income and expenses (we do it FOR you). This deep dive allows us to see EXACTLY how much money is coming in and EXACTLY where this money is being spent. It is an eye opening, vulnerable process (I equate it to getting financially naked) 😱 This analysis sets the Money Fix Program apart from other money coaching programs, and is the foundation we use to build a plan for our clients based on fact. For Erin and Tom, the analysis found a little over $3000 per month in found money that they could be using to better themselves financially (in their case debt payoff and life jacket funds). Step #2 - Their SpendableSo how the heck did we FIND $3000 a month for them? Instead of using a traditional budget (hate those, btw), we employ a “weekly spendable” to be used for food, entertainment, retail and miscellaneous expenses. In this case, post analysis, we identified that they could spend $740 per week (calculated based on their individual numbers by my analysis) on the above items, which would be a reduction in what they had been spending previously. In sticking to their spendable, we were able to find approx $3000 monthly that could then be allotted to other financial priorities such as debt paydown and establishing emergency savings. The weekly spendable is the KEY to taking control of unconscious spending, while allowing you to pursue your financial goals. It is another key component that makes the Money Fix program unique from other money coaching programs and budgeting.. Step #3 - Debt RepaymentThis was the most satisfying component of the Money Fix Pro for Erin and Tom. They were able to use $1500 of their found money per month for debt repayment. They have already paid down their credit cards, and are working on the line of credit! Step #4 - AutomationOnce we had their unconscious spending dialed in, and an established debt repayment plan, we got to work on helping them establish life jacket funds. (If you’ve heard of sinking funds, it’s the same thing, I just prefer something more positive). I had them set up separate accounts for the following: kid's activities, emergency savings, vacation, Christmas and car/house repairs and contribute $1700 (from their found money) on a monthly basis. These life jacket funds help to average out your costs over each month so that you aren’t surprised by a car repair or an emergency cost that puts you off your financial game. The amounts for each life jacket fund were determined in Erin and Tom’s in depth financial analysis. Overall ResultsErin and Tom were THRILLED with their overall results. They are paying off $1495 per month of debt, are better off by $3495 in cashflow each month, got out of the cycle of using credit cards and lines of credit to get through the month, established life jacket funds, reduced money related stress, and got on the same page financially. They were so happy with their results, they have decided to continue working with me in a maintenance style program to maintain their financial health and reach their financial goals! Reader, I learned something this week that made me immediately log into my CRA account. Apparently Canadians are currently sitting on more than $2 BILLION in uncashed federal cheques. Yes… billion. With a B. But make it TWO!!!! Nearly 4 million cheques from the federal government have never been cashed (worth about $2.16 billion). And some of the biggest buckets of that money are: • $391 million in tax refunds• $387 million in GST returns for small-business owners• $141 million in Canada...
Reader, I'm angry today. This week our mortgage renewal paperwork showed up for our investment property. This is after two months of trying to get ahold of our advisor at Scotiabank… who apparently retired, but whose email and phone system are still very much alive and accepting messages. None of which have been returned. 🤦♀️ And honestly, the way this whole thing has been handled proves a point I've been yelling about for 20 years: The bank is NOT your friend. If you want all the details of...
Yesterday my daughter turned 15. HOW IS SHE 15?????? And I was a mess. How does that even happen? (I swear she was just starting kindergarten.) Here’s something not a lot of people know. One of the reasons I left teaching (yes, even with the summers off), was the lack of flexibility during the year. If she had an appointment?Hubby had to cover it. Or I burned a sick day. If something important happened during the day?I missed it. If she needed me?She had to wait until after hours. I didn’t...
